Il rapporto tra lingua e diritto interessa differenti settori e può assumere contenuti diversi a seconda che venga declinato in chiave inclusiva o discriminatoria. Si tratta di problemi che vanno ben al di là di quelli, pur rilevanti, relativi alla tutela delle minoranze linguistiche, e che sollecitano una riflessione più generale sulla funzione di una lingua nazionale come lingua ufficiale. Si pensi alla tutela, solo formalmente paritaria, di tutte le lingue degli Stati membri dell’Unione europea, ma anche al rapporto tra l’italiano e le altre lingue straniere, con la proliferazione di neologismi che interessano anche la lingua giuridica e il prepotente ingresso dell’inglese negli insegnamenti universitari.

Language and Languages: an introduction
The relationship between language and law has repercussions on different sectors and can take on different contents depending on whether it is interpreted in an inclusive or discriminatory key. The issues go far beyond those, although relevant, relating to the protection of linguistic minorities, and call for a more general reflection on the function of a national language as an official language. Think of the protection, only formally equal, of all the languages of the Member States of the European Union, but also of the relationship between Italian and other foreign languages, with the proliferation of neologisms that also affect the legal language and the overbearing entry of English in university teaching.
